Good lord, this was a pain in the butt to finish. I started this project simply because I was tired of the decor in my apartment, and wanted something large and lively to occupy one of my walls. I thought it was going to be quick and dirty, but all told, I think I put in upwards of 60 hours into this blasted thing. Like most of my sculptures, I'm glad that I didn't know in advance how challenging this would be, because I never would have started it otherwise. On the plus side, I really like the end result, so at least it wasn't a worthless pursuit.

I ended up using water colors to paint the surface, but instead of brushing the paint on, I used spray bottles as a kind of poor man's airbrush. This gave me much smoother tones than I would have achieved otherwise, and it helped fill in all the tiny wrinkles in the paper. I diverged somewhat from my previous idea for the colors, but I think this variation worked out pretty well.
