Something old, something new... In most respects, this piece dates back to my sophomore year in high school ('91), and was the second commission I ever received. The reason I still have it in my possession has to do with miscommunication between me, the gallery I was selling it through, and the buyer who was never informed that I had completed the mobile prior to leaving for a month's vacation. Oh well.
The new aspect of this mobile is that, as with my phoenix mobile, it got smashed to bits during a home renovation project five years ago. I finally rebuilt it in 2004, changing the paint job from pure black to black with swirly grey bits. I also repainted the flame-like weights, which were roughly the same colors but looked more boring in their previous incarnation. It is now about 3' tall and 3' in diameter, somewhat smaller than it used to be. |
