In order to earn my "Trade Show Exhibit" merit badge, I created this design for the Colorado Energy Research Institute (CERI) for the 2005 AAPG convention. Due to some bad timing on my part, I only had about 24 hours to complete the layout from scratch, and considering that a) I was never given the exact dimensions of the booth, b) there were some annoying restrictions on the size of the printouts, and c) I had no high-resolution graphics to work from, I don't think it turned out half bad. I'll do better the next time I try something like this, but for a first attempt at a large-scale display, it could have been a lot worse.
To get a sense for what the design would look like under somewhat realistic lighting conditions, I made the simulated 3D image that's shown here by distorting a snapshot of the layout in Illustrator, then farting around with lighting effects in Photoshop. |
